The shifter base sits at the very rear of the tranny, so I had to do a little creative work with a sheet metal nibbler. However, as close as it looks, everything still works, BARELY. To avoid any hassles, the transfer case shifter will have to be bent slightly:

You need to use the slip yoke from the RX-7, but I found a little suprise: Mazda started crimping in their u-joints sometime between 81 and 85, so I had to get a drive shaft at the junkyard even though the one that came out of my 85 was in great shape. The “crimped” in style shaft is at the top, and the style with the internal snap rings is at the bottom:
