Spare Tire Extension Mount with Bill Johnston
When installing enough lift to fit 33″ Swampers under a Samurai, the last thing you think about is how to mount the spare… Designs of Steel has come up with a quick and easy bracket to install that makes mounting the larger meat a no-brainer.
The stock 205/70/R15 tires are skinny. They are on a skinny wheel. They fit on the spare tire mount perfectly. But if you have a larger tire and wheel combination, you had to do some fancy cutting and welding to move the mounting point out 2″ and then up about 2″. No more.
It is as simple as removing the tiny spare tire and attaching the powder coated bracket using the stock lug nuts. Then you heave that big ol’ Swamper into place and secure it with the new lug nuts that are supplied with the bracket. The bracket moves rim up a full 2″ to clear the bumper. It also moves the rim a full 2″ farther away from the tailgate. If you are only jumping up to a 10″-11″ wide tire, it is overkill. But if you have a 12.50″ – 13.50″ wide tire it is a perfect fit. The 1/4″ steel bracket is strong enough to keep everything secure. Again, Designs of Steel has produced a strong, quality product that fulfills an honest to goodness need. You can get them direct from Designs of Steel by contacting them through their web page, by phone or email – or you can find their components on eBay. When you order, tell them iZook sent you.
