On The Trail!with Todd Bathrick

Welcome to West Michigan’s First Annual Snow Blitz brought to you by Double Vision Off-Road and the West Michigan Off-Roaders. We met in Muskegon and traveled to the Luther, Michigan area for this event. On the way to the trails, we had a couple of fellow off-roaders (non-members) join in on the parade. They later told us that after the 15th or so truck had passed them, they finally figured out what was going on! So they made a U-turn and followed us to the trails (we love it when that happens).  As you can see in the first picture, we didn’t have a whole lot of snow for this event. In most of the trails we traveled there was snow but we managed to find some sand and mud to play in too. Check out the map!

This group of pictures was taken at the Lincoln Hills Trail. We found this little sand (and snow) bowl to play in. This area is best suited for the ATV’s and the agile Samurai’s.

The pictures in this group are from the Tin Cup Springs trail. We had allot of new rigs with us for Snow Blitz,  some of our “regulars” are working on there trucks for this summer. We had 17 trucks in all. Not bad for the middle of winter! Next year we hope to make this a two event and open it to everyone.

I had a little problem! Transmission line broke. It was really nice to see everyone lend a hand though. We worked on the problem for a while, but this was not going to be a trail fix 🙁

It was starting to get late (and cold) so we hooked up the Blazer to the Head Wrench Dodge to head to town.

With the the darkness, came the cold. Brr! This was going to be a long ride home! We headed for the nearest town in search of 5/16 tubing, but none to be found (nothing open on Sunday, where is the nearest Autozone?) Did we mention it was getting dark and really cold? By the way, I did make it home safely thanks to Head Wrench, and a few others. Once we returned to town, Joe let us use his garage to repair the tranny line. I was a popsicle. I don’t know exactly how cold it was, but before I could thaw out, Head Wrench had the problem corrected! What a mechanic he is. I spend the next 30 minutes trying to warm up though.

I had to throw one more picture of this sweet Sammy. This has to be the neatest 4×4 I’ve ever seen! Awesome rig Larry! We had planned this trip for a date when we would have lots of snow. What can we say? Michigan weather can’t be predicted! Look for information here at Izook and at the DVO home page for Snow Blitz 2000. http://members.aol.com/DVOffroad
